FAQ

Causes of eye loss:
  1. What are the causes that lead to the loss of the natural eye?
The reasons are many, including war – cancerous diseases – cancerous diseases from birth in children to various accidents

  1. Do genetics play a role in the loss of a normal eye?
Of course not, there is no role for heredity in this matter. Injury has nothing to do with heredity, even if it was a disease, and sometimes the blind may give birth to healthy children.

  1. Does poor or nearsightedness lead to the loss of the natural eye?
Of course not.

  1. Does wearing contact lenses permanently lead to eye loss?
Medical contact lenses have no negative effects so far on the eye, because they are made as a substitute for medical looks, unless the patient has an allergy to the contact lens. As for colored lenses, studies have shown that placing them in the eye may cause blindness.

  1. When the natural eye is lost, what happens, meaning, do the veins and arteries stop functioning normally, i.e. a defect in the connection between the eye and the brain?
The veins and arteries remain as they are and function in their natural form. When the eye is removed, the doctor keeps the muscles. As for the connection between the eye and the brain, there is a connection between tissues and veins, but to no avail.

6. Are there certain ages at which a person loses his natural eye? In children, in adults? Or is age irrelevant?
It is natural that age has nothing to do with it, because when the injury comes, you do not choose the young over the old, or vice versa.

Modern technical solutions
  1. What is an artificial eye and what does it consist of?
The artificial eye is a substitute for the natural eye, and it consists of a substance called “acil”, materials that do not interact in the eye and do not have any negative complications. It is made of plastic materials. There are also artificial eyes made of glass – of course we do not use them.
  1. How to put it in place of the natural eye?
When the eye is removed or atrophied, a void is created, and the prosthetic eye is placed in the place of the void
  1. What are the latest technologies in the field of eye surgery?

The history of the artificial eye is as old as time. The Pharaohs and the Romans used the artificial eye, and like all industries, they began to search for a new method around the artificial eye, and they reached the result of an oval-shaped artificial eye made of different materials. If we went a little to Switzerland, twenty years ago or more, Mr. Georges Dubois was able to make a radical change in the eye industry. A new method and innovative technology was introduced in the eye industry. The eye was oval in shape and became, according to Mr. Georges Dubois, three-dimensional, of course, Mr. Georges from Switzerland and his student at the level of Europe, and of course I learned from him at the level of the Middle East, that we are unique in this industry, alone in the world, and our new, as I mentioned, a three-dimensional eye that determines the internal and external shape and the circumference of the eye, and we can identify all the terrain inside the eye, and with this new technology we protect the eyelids from drooping, i.e. the lower eyelid And the upper eyelid, because the artificial eye is based on the eye contour and its muscles, and this gives more flexibility and movement to the artificial eye, of course, if it is healthy, because the old eye is oval in shape, and one of its disadvantages is that it rests on the lower eyelid with time.
  1. What materials are used to color the prosthetic eye to resemble the natural eye?
The materials that are used industrially by most specialists, i.e. colors, expire with time, but the colors that we use are natural colors extracted from the earth and are completely similar to the natural eye.
  1. What are the stages a patient goes through before implanting an artificial eye?
It goes through three stages:
  1. We take the measurement inside the eye, which requires him to stay inside the house for two or three days in order for his eye to rest as a result of the measurement
  2. We have made a transparent eye through measurement to determine the shape of the eye, its opening and its colors
  3. After two days, we need time to prepare the eye, and we will have finished making it
  1. Is this eye transplant considered surgery?
Of course not, there is nothing to do with surgery in our field
  1. Does this process require admission to a hospital or is it done in the clinic?
There is no need for a hospital, all work is done in the clinic
  1. Is there any pain experienced by the patient immediately after the placement of the prosthetic eye?
When placing the prosthetic eye, he should not feel any pain.
  1. Can the patient remove the eye at the time he wants, or is it attached to the face?
The patient can remove the eye at the time he wants
  1. Is there a period of time for the patient to stay on the new eye or as it is called a foreign body?
It does not need a period of time, the time we put the prosthetic eye for it takes its place without pain, but there is a case if the eye is present and has atrophy, we put the prosthetic eye on it, it needs a day or more so that he does not feel anything inside his eye
  1. What are the steps that must be followed to maintain the prosthetic eye?

He should clean it well with cold water and not put hot water on it. He should not put any detergents on it such as sterilization, soap, etc. He should put it in a safe place and pay close

attention to it

  1. Is the artificial eye exposed to diseases (such as infections), what are the symptoms and solutions?
The artificial eye is not exposed to anything, but it happens with time inside the eye as a result of pollutants from the outside, such as unclean air, unclean water, disease or cold, for example, he has some infections inside the eye, and he has to consult an ophthalmologist and prescribe a suitable medicine for her condition.
  1. For patients, can they put make-up on the eye?
Of course, easily
  1. Can the patient swim and be exposed to the sun?
He can practice all his hobbies that he wants and he can swim, but we recommend wearing swimming goggles and he can also be exposed to the sun like any normal person
  1. Is there a specific time period for it to expire?
The eye that we make does not have a period of time because its type and shape do not change with time, but what changes? The physiological changes inside the eye, we cannot specify a period of time for him. It is possible for a year or two, if he undergoes an eye removal operation. But if a person wants to change the eye, i.e. replace it, he has no time period.
  1. Is there any follow-up by you for the patient from time to time to ensure the health and performance of the prosthetic eye?
It is recommended that the patient come every six months to polish and clean it. This is better for the patient and for the eye to remain soft
  1. Are there difficult cases in which you cannot put a patient with an artificial eye? What are these cases? Are there any other solutions for it?
Yes, there are difficult cases that I cannot put a prosthetic eye on the patient:
  •  If it is infected but maintains its natural shape, here the eye must be removed so that we can put an eye on the patient
  • Eyelid problems, which are many
Upper eyelid Drooping upper eyelid The patient wants a result, but it is difficult to give him what he wants. An eyelid lift operation must be performed.
Lower eyelid The drooping of the lower eyelid gives an unfamiliar shape to the patient and a visual distortion occurs. Also, eyelid surgery
Congenital deformity and this need more than one surgery
– The absence of an eyelid as a result of a burn, accident, or illness. The eyelid can be repaired by the attending physician
What are the psychological effects of the patient before and after the operation?

At the beginning, when I meet any patient, he complains of a complex psyche and frustrated morale. The first thing he tells me is that I want an eye that no one can distinguish by its shape, size and color, because I have been tired all these years without result, and I am sometimes ashamed of going out to the street and of peoples questions and pestering me.

But after completing the eye and he has liked it, and of course if he does not have any obstacles that prevent us from obtaining the result that I want, he always smiles and thanks me, his spirits improve a lot and he seems cheerful. To give this patient a second chance
My work gives him confidence again in himself and in his society, so my pleasure is more than his happiness and more than his smile. This cosmetic work gives the patient another opportunity to face people and life in a better way. This is not only for females, but also for males, as it is for adults, especially children.

The goal is to light a candle in the darkness of the night. The goal is to smile when it is impossible to smile. To give hope and joy to hearts that have lost hope, comfort and reassurance.

The center was established in 2001 under the supervision of the Swiss specialist Georges Dubois and the Lebanese specialist Samer Kahil, to be the leading center in Lebanon and the Middle East, and it is a branch of the main center in Switzerland.

Our work is characterized by the introduction of scientific and technical innovation in the artificial eye by measuring the three-dimensional anatomical view of the eye, which determines the external and internal shape of the eye and the point of fulcrum on its muscles.

This unique new technology in Lebanon and the Middle East contributes to giving the patient an eye similar to the natural eye in terms of size and shape.
It also preserves the upper and lower eyelids and protects them from drooping, in addition to being smooth at eye level
